Alyssa's Update

Alyssa today is on the first floor or what we call the AFLAC floor. We were told today that Alyssa will be getting an MRI, When her little body can handle being put back to sleep for a couple of hours. Not sure when this will be. Her lungs are still heavily congested. She took her first few steps on Sunday and was seen by a whole host of doctors, OT, PT, Speech and Neurologist. When her lungs become stronger and she is over any danger she will be moved to the Rehab floor. Alyssa still has not spoken but a couple of words since she has woken up on 3/22/2010 and this was Daddy and No. She will need to learn to walk and move her arms and legs all over as well as learn to speak. She is very determined and tries with all of her heart. She will do what ever the therapist ask even if it hurts. Where this child gets her strength can only be from God and the prayers of so many. Alyssa and Angela are looking at six to eight weeks more in the hospital if all goes well. Please Keep this Angel in your prayers, And the family.

Alyssa's update

Alyssa has been in the hospital since 3/3/10. She went in with a bacteria infection in her lungs Again. She was moved to the PICU on 3/8/10 and then put on the ventilator that evening. She was on the vent. until Monday the 22sd. and then was put on the BIPAP for a few days. now she is on a flow tube with high oxygen. There was an MRI planned for this week. But due to Alyssa being so week and her lungs have not cleared very much they would not put her through the MRI due to the risk. Alyssa still will not talk or try to move. She was able to get some sleep on Thursday after being awake for all most three days from the meds. that she is on. Their trying to start physical therapy to help with her limbs and her being so weak. So PLEASE keep Alyssa in your prayers and thoughts. She will have a hard and long recovery from this. But she is trying with all of her strength.

Alyssa Leonard is in the Hospital at Scottish Rite in ICU on a ventilator. She was admitted in the hospital on 3-03-2010 for bacteria infection in the lings and is still their. Please keep her in your prayers and her family.

Alyssa's Story

Life changed forever on 2/14//05 Alyssa was diagnosed with a Inoperable Brain Stem Glioma (brain tumor ). Alyssa began her long Chemo Treatment in March of 2005. Once a week for 16 months, at the tender age of 6 years old. Alyssa is under the care of lots of Doctors, she started back on Chemo Treatments in April of 2008 and finished on July 2009 Chemotherapy treatment. The year of 2008, Alyssa was having lots of headaches, vomiting, choking, almost daily. So she had to have several major surgeries and two Major Brain Surgeries. One was to help relieve pressure off the brain because the tumor is so large it needed more space. So again our life's where turned upside down. It was a terrible journey we didn't want to be on. This was a hard decision to make, because of all the risk involved, but not doing the surgery there were also risks involved. But unfortunately the surgery was not successful. (Sub-occipital Craniectomy.C1 and C2 laminectomy. Duraplasty for decompression of the brain-stem glioma.)What this means, is a piece of the skull was removed from the back of the head to try a help Alyssa, but was not successful. Alyssa, then become very weak with no improvement, she had developed blood and fluid build up on her brain, more surgery was needed. A Ventricular Shunt was placed into the brain to help with fluid drainage. Alyssa also was under another surgery in August 2008 she spent lots of days and night in the Hospital. In January of 2009 Alyssa returned to the ER and was admitted to the Hospital Fighting for her Life! Alyssa was burning up with a fever having chest pains, she was diagnosed with blood clogs and bacteria infection in her Lungs. Her Lungs began filling up with fluid, then her fever increased. Alyssa then coded Tuesday night around 10:30pm she was taken to ICU and placed on a Ventilator. Alyssa continued to worsen,Alyssa was fighting for her live... but Alyssa beat all odds against her.

Just the in the year of 2009 Alyssa has spend over 7 months in the Hospital..from being in pain,vomiting blood,severe headaches,chest pains.She is on lots of pain meds.so she cope with her pain...this is no way a child should live ..Alyssa still battles with her medical problems daily and for Life !! She has a long Road ahead.......*Alyssa is in Gods Hands*

We believe that this experience has changed our whole families lives. We no longer sweat the small stuff and try and live everyday to the fullest. We are very thankful and Blessed to have such a amazing Little Angel... We thank God for her she has bought so much Joy and Blessing to our Lives.... So this is Alyssa's Day to Honor Her and say Thanks for all you do !....You Are Our HERO !... WE Love you very much !...
